Manfred Kuschmann

Manfred Klaus Kuschmann ( born July 25, 1950 in Coswig; † 13 February 2002 in Halle an der Saale ) was a German long-distance runner and European champions.

Sporting career

Manfred Kusch man started for the SC Chemie Halle and trained with Walter Schmidt. In its competition time, he was 1.76 m tall and weighed 61 kg.

Kuschmann competed for the German Democratic Republic (GDR) at the European Athletics Championships 1974 in Rome and became European Champion in the 10,000 -meter run ( 28:25,8 min) and second in the 5000 -meter run ( 13:24,0 min ). 1974 and 1975 he was East German champion in 5000 -meter run, 1974 GDR Champion in the 10,000 meter run, 1971 GDR champion in cross-country running ( long distance). In 1973 he competed in the Košice Peace Marathon ( 2:23:08 h). In 1974 he presented a DDR record in 25- km run on ( 1:17:14 h, November 10, 1974 in a hurry castle ). At the Athletics European Cup in 1973, he was second and 1975 third in 5000 -meter run. For the Olympic Games in 1976 and the European Championships in 1978, he could not qualify. In 1981, he won the Rennsteiglauf on the marathon course.

1974 Manfred Kusch man was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in bronze.

Life

Manfred Kusch man was initially Zerspanungsfacharbeiter and master, later he was a coach at SC Chemie Halle. After the end of the GDR, he worked at the city hall clerk's office on the Saale. In 1995 he was diagnosed with stomach cancer. In 2000 he started in spite of the disease in Halle city run ( forerunner of the Central German marathons ).

On the morning of February 13, 2002 Manfred Kusch man died after years of cancer in the hospice at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Halle an der Saale. At the funeral in the cemetery of his birthplace Coswig, hundreds among others, the two -time Olympic champion Waldemar Cierpinski and sports commentator Heinz Florian Oertel concerned by people.
