Manfred Schneckenburger

Manfred Worm Burger ( * 1938 in Stuttgart ) is a German art historian, university professor and artistic director of international art exhibitions. He was the only one who has led the documenta in Kassel twice (1977 and 1987).

Career

Manfred Burger snails studied German, history, art history and ethnology. Initially he worked as a high school teacher before he completed an internship at the State Gallery in Stuttgart and art and theater critic wrote. From 1969 to 1972 snails burger was involved as a speaker at the exhibition Olympic Committee in Munich and worked from 1970 instrumental in organizing and carrying out the great Olympic exhibition " World Cultures and Modern Art " in Munich in 1972. From 1973 to 1974 he was director of the Kunsthalle Cologne.

Documenta

Worm Burger was appointed artistic director of documenta 6, which took place in Kassel in 1977. Subsequently, he was a freelance artist, he made exhibitions and published books and catalogs on art of the 20th century. In 1984 he was appointed second time as artistic director in Kassel, he curated the documenta 8 in 1987.

Teaching

In the years between and after the two-time duties as curator of documenta - worm Manfred Burger also worked as a university teacher, for example in Bochum. After the end of d8 he took over in 1987, the documenta - professorship at the University of Kassel ( GHK Kassel University ) until 1989. Starting from 1991 he was professor of " Art and the Public " at the Academy of Fine Arts Münster and until his retirement in 2004, its rector.

Lichtsicht Biennale

In 2007, snails Burger was appointed curator of the Biennale Projection " lichtsicht " in Bad Rothenfelde, which is taking place for the fourth time under his guidance 2013/14. Manfred Worm Burger has published numerous books and catalogs on art and architecture, and was co- author of a two -volume edition of the art of the 20th century.
