Manilva

Manilva is a town in the far south-east of Málaga ( Spain) province.

History

Archaeological finds ( Cerro de Castillo ) evidence of a settlement the area around Manilva already in the Bronze Age and suggest Phoenician offices. At the time of the Roman Empire, the then praetor Julius Caesar had in the sulfur springs, which have been expanded by the Romans to one, now preserved partly Bad cure of Hedionda from a skin disease. In the district of La Duquesa remains of a Roman fishing village were found.

The Moorish invasion of 711 AD, leaving only traces in the form of a watchtower on the coast ( Torre de Chullera ) and with the victory of the Catholic Monarchs in 1492 in Granada, leading to the expulsion of the Moors, Manilva less important. Pirate attacks on the now unprotected coast resulting in 1528 in a petition of the inhabitants of Malaga, Ronda and Gibraltar to the Duke of Arcos, leading to the actual establishment of Manilva in 1528. It was not until 1796 Manilva sparked the " Condando de Casares " (county Casares ) and is independent municipality. During the Spanish War of Independence Manilva was one of the few places that were not occupied by the French troops.
