Manitoba Hydro

Manitoba Hydro is a power company headquartered in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. It was founded in 1961 and is owned by the province of Manitoba. The company employs approximately 6,200 people and operates 15 power plants. It supplies 527,000 customers with electricity and 263,000 customers with natural gas. Since 2009, the headquarters is located in 2009 opened Manitoba Hydro Place. Manitoba Hydro electrical energy exported to the United States by means of pipelines.

History

The first supply of electricity in Winnipeg began on 12 March 1873. The advantages of an electric supply has been demonstrated in a building which was known as Davis House Hotel and was located on Main Street. 1880 Manitoba Electric and Gas Light Company was founded.

Power plants

Manitoba Hydro operates mainly water and steam power plants and wind farms. The company does not operate a nuclear power plant, but has for research purposes over a nuclear power plant.
