Manius Manilius

Manius Manilius was a Roman politician, military leader and jurist of the 2nd century BC

He was about 155 BC. Praetor as governor of the province of Hispania ulterior where he led unsuccessful campaigns against the Lusitanians 149 BC, he became the first of his family (homo novus ) consul and began the Third Punic War, which developed into a siege of Carthage, which was, however, led by his successor Scipio Aemilianus victorious end to which it a friendship association. He must have 129 BC still alive, because as one of the parties to the call Marcus Tullius Cicero represents him in his dialogue De re publica.

More successful than in his campaigns Manilius was a lawyer and orator. From humble circumstances to arise, he supported Roman citizens in legal procedures, in particular related to the trade. A collection of forms created him is sometimes quoted by Varro, Cicero and Brutus.
