Mano Dayak

Mano Dayak (* around 1950 in the valley Tidene, today Dabaga; † 15 December 1995 Adrar Mountains Chirouet, today Iférouane ) was a Nigerien political activist, entrepreneur and writer from the ethnic group of the Tuareg.

Life

Mano Dayak was " between the year of the great drought and the locust plague ," born in the Wadi of Tidene in Aïr, so around 1950, and grew up in the Sahara. He attended the nomadic school and a high school in Agadez. He studied in the United States and in Paris, but never completed his studies, he traveled back to his home, there to support his people in the struggle for freedom and acceptance. After his return he founded with his future wife Odile ( with whom he has two sons later, Mawli and Madani, ) a travel agency, to give his people and work to bring the world closer to the way of life and the situation of the Tuareg. Energetically, he used all his energy to allow negotiations between the Tuareg and the surrounding states. He was a champion of the peace treaty, which was signed by the government of Niger and the Tuareg rebels on 24 April 1995. On the way to peace negotiations on 15 December 1995 to Niamey died Mano Dayak, as the plane exploded at startup.

The International Airport of Agadez was named after him.
