Manuchehri

Manoutchehri (English transliteration: Manutschihri or Manutschehri; * end of the 10th century in Damghan, Semnan, † 1040 ) was a Persian poet of the 11th century. He lived both in the court of Ziyariden Manutschihr ibn Qaboos (reigned 1012-1029 ) and at the court of the Ghaznavid Masud I (reigned 1031-1040 ). The name by which he was known in the literature, is derived from the first-named sponsor.

Life

In his first half of his life he studied the works of Arab authors. Their influence can be detected in several of his poems. Both the selected vocabulary, poetic metrics as well as the topics to show this influence. His personal and original thoughts, his skill in the representation and description, the choice of metaphors and comparisons make him one of the "great" poets. In stimulating way he describes different aspects of nature. He also brought new facets in the Bacchic poems. He did also apparent in the strophic form of poetry ( Mosammath ).
