Manuel Apicella

Manuel Apicella ( born April 19, 1970 in Longjumeau ) is a French chess player. He became an International Master in 1989, and since 1995 he has the title of chess grandmaster.

Individual successes

In 1990 he was city champion of Paris, he was in Strasbourg French Single Master (category 7 ) 1992, 1994, he was split in the International Open in Béthune 1st - 5th In 1995 he won the Masters Comtois in Belfort ( category 10) and the third grandmaster tournament in Clichy ( category 10). At the Open in Tunis 1997, he was shared 1st - 4th In 1999 he won the First International Open in Chanac and was at the 14th Touraine Open in Avoine shared 1st - 2nd He was at the CCAS Open in Cap d'Agde shared 1st -5, 2002. In 2003 he won the First BC grandmaster tournament in Bois- Colombes (category 7 ) and the 6th St. Quentin Open in Élancourt. In 2004 he was divided at the 2nd BC grandmaster tournament in Bois- Colombes 1 -2. (Category 8) and won the 4th Open in Saint- Chely -d'Aubrac. In 2005 he won the 3rd BC grandmaster tournament in Bois Colombes (Category 8). In 2006 he was at the 13th Luigi Serra Tournament in Montecatini Terme shared 1st - 2nd (Category 8), won the 18th Open d' été in Cannes and was tied at the 4th Mediterranean Individual Championship in Cannes second behind Suat Atalik.

Team success

Eight times he became a French team champion, 1986 Caissa, 1989, 1996, 1997, 1999, 2007 and 2008 with Clichy and 2010, Châlons -en -Champagne. The French Team Cup he could with Clichy 92 Echecs win five times ( 1992, 1996, 1998, 2001 and 2006). In the British Four Nations Chess League he played for Hilsmark Kingfisher in the Division 3 team chess, he also plays for Oaso XT in the Basque first league.

With the French U26 national team, he won a bronze medal at the U26 World Cup in 1993 in Paranaguá. Twice he played for the French national team at the European Championships in 1989 and 1992. Well He participated in three Chess Olympiads, 1994, 1996 and 2000, with a total score of 13 points from 26 games ( 6 = 14 -6).

His current Elo rating is 2521 (as of February 2014), so it is on the 22nd place of the French Elo ranking. His previous highest Elo rating was 2560 in July 1996.
