Manuel Caetano de Sousa

Manuel Caetano de Sousa ( born January 25, 1742 in Mafra, † May 1802 in Lisbon ) was a Portuguese architect of the baroque.

Career

He was the son and pupil of the architect Tomás Caetano de Sousa. After the death of Mateus Vicente de Oliveira, he was appointed court architect and leader of the Casa do Infantado.

Sousa recorded after the Lisbon earthquake of 1755 responsible for the new construction and reconstruction of numerous palaces and churches, including the Palácio Nacional da Ajuda, the Palácio dos Duque de Palmela, the Igreja da Encarnação, the Igreja de São Domingos and the royal chapel in the Palácio because bemposta. 1771 created the library in the Palácio Nacional de Mafra.
