Manuel Machado (poet and playwright)

Manuel Machado Ruiz ( born August 29, 1874 in Seville, † January 19, 1947 in Madrid) was a Spanish poet and the brother of Antonio Machado.

Life

Manuel Machado was born the son of Antonio Machado Ruiz Álvarez and Ana in Seville. When he was nine years old, the family moved to Madrid, where Machado studied literature, published his first poems and other poets such as Juan Ramón Jiménez met. He was director of the Museo Municipal and worked as a journalist. In 1938 he was appointed a member of the Real Academia Española. Together with his brother Antonio, he created several plays, including " La Lola se va a los Puerto ", " La duquesa de Benamej ", " La prima Fernanda ", " Juan de Mañara ", " Las adelfas ", " El hombre que Murió en la guerra "or" Desdichas de la fortuna o Julianillo Valcárcel ". Work

Manuel Machado devoted himself to the study of flamenco and the Andalusian folklore and wrote his poetry in this style ( coplas, seguidillas, soleares, etc.). In addition, he also wrote numerous sonnets and romances.
