Manuel Pio Correia

Manuel Pio Correia (* 1874 in Porto, † 1934 in Paris) was a Portuguese botanist.

Life

Pio Manuel Correia Manoel was the son of publisher and bookseller Ignacio Correia, he married Mercedes Veloso Pio Correia; her son was Manuel Pio Correia Júnior. Among the researched by Manuel Pio Correia science belonged botany and geology. In his studies he focused on applied botany, in particular the scientific, economic and industrial methods of crop production. He was employed in the Botanical Garden of Rio de Janeiro. He wrote the six-volume Diccionario the Plantas úteis do Brasil e the exóticas Cultivadas ( reference of the Brazilian crop ), which was published by the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture from 1926. His bibliography includes about 150 works. He was a member of more than a dozen academic institutions. When he died, he was a research associate at the Natural History Museum in Paris.
