Manuel Quiroga (violinist)

Manuel Quiroga Losada ( born April 15, 1892 in Pontevedra, † April 19, 1961 ) was a Spanish violinist and composer.

Life

Encouraged by his family, he began the first violin studies in Madrid and continued them in Paris. In Paris, he had close contacts with the composer - violinist George Enescu, Eugène Ysaÿe and Fritz Kreisler, who influenced him decisively. At the age of 19 he was able to finish his studies at the Paris Conservatoire with a first prize. Eugène Ysaÿe dedicated to his students the 6th Sonata for Solo Violin, Op 27

At the age of 46 years he suffered in New York City an accident in which he was so severely wounded that public appearances became impossible for him as a violinist. From then on he devoted himself only to composing.
