Map Puffer ( Arothron mappa )

The Map Puffer ( Arothron mappa ), also called Mappa Pufferfish, lives in the tropical western Indo-Pacific from East and South Africa to the Ryukyu Islands, Samoa, the Ryukyu Islands, south to New Caledonia and the coast of northeastern Australia ( Queensland). In the Seychelles, he is often in the rest of its range it occurs only occasionally. He keeps on getting near a hiding place, especially in lagoons and in protected outdoor reefs near the coast.

The color drawing of maps puffers consists of a pattern of tangled black lines that extend radially to the eye. The basic color is white, yellow or greenish, between the pectoral fins often black. The fish are 65 inches long. The skin is without scales and covered with small spines.

Map puffer fish live close to the ground, are solitary and territorial and feed on fleshy and hard algae, sponges, sea squirts, molluscs, crustaceans and other bottom-dwelling invertebrates.
