MAPEI is a producer of construction chemical products for the installation of wall and floor coverings. The name MAPEI stands for " Materiali Ausiliari Per l' Industria e l' Edilizia ", ie "Auxiliary Materials for Construction and Industry". Currently, the MAPEI Group comprises 59 plants with 7,500 employees in 28 countries. The total turnover of MAPEI was around 2.1 billion euros in 2011. The headquarters of MAPEI Germany is located in the Bavarian Erlenbach am Main, the production base is located in Weferlingen / Saxony- Anhalt.

History

Mapei can look back on over 75 years of company history. On February 12, 1937 Rodolfo founded Squinzi, the ninth of eleven children, on the outskirts of Milan, Mapei. With three employees, colored plasters and materials for the interior decoration of residential buildings, hospitals and airports were made at the beginning.

After the Second World War, focused on Mapei adhesives for the construction industry, while specializing in the niche market of products for the installation of flooring materials. Later succeeded Rodolfo Squinzi together with his son Giorgio, a postdoctoral chemist to build the company another strength: the continuous improvement of products, thanks to a powerful research laboratories. Investments in research and development were also the basis for the start of the internationalization of the company, with the establishment of a branch in Canada began in 1978. The expansion on all five continents, was continued in the following years and concretized through the establishment of production at strategically located places of the world market. Currently the Mapei Group has 7,500 employees. Approximately 20,000 tons of construction chemical products are produced daily worldwide and supplies more than 55,000 customers.

MAPEI in Germany

In Germany the Mapei is active with three sister companies. These are the Rasco Bitumentechnik in August the village, the Sopro construction chemicals in Wiesbaden and the Mapei GmbH in Erlenbach. The latter is for over 20 years and with more than 200 employees in the market. This includes an independent research and development department, and a manufacturing facility in Weferlingen (Saxony -Anhalt).

Mapei offers in Germany a complete range of construction chemical products for the tile and stone installation, floor equipment, construction materials and concrete admixtures. These include products for the installation of ceramic tile and natural stone as well as products for the installation of textile and resilient floor coverings. There are also products for laying conductive coatings, adhesives for parquet flooring, but also screed binder and fast strokes.

Research and Development

Research and development are always a focus of Mapei Group. Currently we are present in 18 centers with 900 employees active in order to constantly develop new and innovative solutions for the construction. Every year Mapei invests 5 % of sales in research and development. Of these, more than 70% are used for the development of sustainable products and systems.

For this reason, Mapei has directed the focus of his research on the development of safe products for environmental, processors and end users. Example of this are the products of ECO - line that have been tested in internationally recognized and accredited testing institutes and the " EMICODE EC1 - very low emission " bear logo. Under the heading of " Green Innovation " Mapei has also launched a global initiative for sustainable construction. An important criterion in this process represent the various rating systems for sustainable construction dar. Among the best known American LEED system, evaluated the building according to a point system. The importance of these evaluation systems demonstrated by the fact that institutional investors from the financial sector in many countries, preferably invest in certified buildings, so as to minimize the risk management.
