Maple Heights is a suburb of Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio, United States. The population was 26,156 at the census in 2000.

Maple Heights has 13.4 square kilometers and is located in the neighborhood of other suburbs of Cleveland. In the north, Maple Heights borders the city of Cleveland and Warrensville Heights, on the south by Bedford and Walton Hills, to the south and to the west by Bedford Heights Garfield Heights.

History

Benjamin Fitch of Connecticut in 1813 was the first settler in the area. John Dunham came in 1817 and built a way, where today the Dunham Road runs along. After July 4, 1827 section of the Ohio and Erie Canals had been opened between Cleveland and Akron, this road also provided easy access to the channel. This was a further boost for the area. 1849 here is a station of the Cleveland & Pittsburgh Railroad was opened in 1881 followed by the Connotton Valley Railroad. The Akron, Bedford & Cleveland Interurban Line was the first of the electrified suburban lines, which enabled the development of the suburbs of Cleveland late 19th and early 20th century. They went from 1895 until 1932.

In July 1915 Maple Heights was an independent municipality in the north- western part of Bedford Township. The rapidly growing community in the affluent suburbs of Cleveland as the neighboring towns of Garfield Heights and Bedford Heights in the early 1930s to the city. The City status has Maple Heights since January 1, 1932.

Education

The public education system in the city comprises six schools. There are the Maple Heights High School and the Milkovich Middle School and the elementary schools Dunham Elementary, Raymond Elementary, Rockside Elementary and Stafford Elementary. The elementary schools have to offer only certain grade levels, so that the peers are grouped together in one building and go after two school years the school. The planned gradual construction of several schools around the city will remedy this situation.
