Maracon

Maracones is a municipality in the district of Lavaux -Oron in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland. With effect from 1 January 2003, the formerly independent municipality Rogivue was merged with maracones.

Geography

Maracones is located on 843 m above sea level. M., 4 km east-southeast of Oron- la -Ville and 19 km east of the canton capital Lausanne ( straight line ). The farming village extends a scenic location on a hilltop overlooking the valley of Broye, in the eastern marginal zone of Vaud Mittelland.

The area of ​​4.4 km ² municipal area comprises a portion of Molassehügellandes in the foothills. The boundary to the southeast forms the headwaters of the Broye, which has created over time a small V-shaped valley in the molasse. From the Broye the communal land extends northward over a wide, sloping gradually towards the west ridge (up to 883 m above sea level. M., and thus the highest point of maracones ) to the Talniederung the Mionne. In the extreme north-east, on the former municipality of La Rogivue, is the marsh and swamp Les Mosses. From the municipality surface 1997 6 % came from settlements, 22 % of forest and shrubs, 69% to agriculture and about 3% was unproductive land.

To maracones include the village of La Rogivue, the hamlet of La Coudre (840 m above sea level. M. ) north of the village as well as several individual farms. Neighboring communities of maracones are Oron in the canton of Vaud and Saint- Martin, Semsales, Châtel -Saint -Denis and Remaufens in the Canton of Fribourg.

Population

With 457 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) maracones one of the small communities of the Canton of Vaud. Of the 93.3% inhabitants are French-speaking, German-speaking 3.4 % and 0.7 % in English (as of 2000). The population of maracones amounted in 1900 to 398 inhabitants. Thereafter, through constant migration to 1970 recorded a decrease to 210 inhabitants; Since then, the population rose again sharply and doubled within 30 years.

Economy

Maracones was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. Even today, the crop and livestock farming have an important place in the economic structure of the population. More jobs are in small local manufacturing and services available. Through the construction of several houses in the past few decades, the village has developed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work mainly in Lausanne and Vevey.

Traffic

The municipality is located away from busy thoroughfares on a road from Palézieux after Semsales. By Postbus course, which runs from Oron- la -Ville via Palézieux after Semsales, maracones and Rogivue are connected to the public transport network.

History

The first mention of maracones was in 1236 under the name Montimarascon, derived from the Latin words mons (mountain) and mariscum ( swamp, marsh ). Later, the names Morascon ( 1287 ) published, Monracot ( 1290 ) and Montracot ( 1292 ).

A part of maracones belonged in the Middle Ages the rule Palézieux, the other part of the family champion. This sold its stake in 1547 to Berne. After the conquest of Vaud by Bern, the village came in 1557 to the Bernese bailiff Oron. After the collapse of the ancien régime maracones belonged from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic to the canton of Geneva, who then came up with the enactment of the Act of Mediation in the canton of Vaud. 1798 was assigned to the District Oron. In 1872, at the village edge of Ecoteaux Very hamlet and the former castle came to the municipality of maracones. On 1 January 2003 was incorporated the formerly independent Rogivue after maracones.

Attractions

The present parish church was built in 1822 by maracones in the style of classicism. It stands on the site of an earlier building. In the school house also has a bell (1602 ) earlier this church. In the center some stately farmhouses dating from the 18th and 19th centuries have been preserved.
