Maramec Spring

The Maramec Spring also called Meramec Spring is a karst spring at St. James in the State of Missouri in the United States. It is the source of the Meramec River, a 350 km long tributary of the Mississippi and the fifth largest source of state. The average bed is 4300 liters per second but may rise to 22,000 l / s. The karst spring located in Maramec Spring Park, where more springs and caves are located. The park is well known for its karst landscape. On Maramec Spring trout farm system is operated. The source itself is privately owned but open to the public. In October 1971, she was designated as a National Natural Landmark ( natural monument ). Nearby are the ruins of a historic iron work, which formerly used the available there hydropower.
