Marange diamond fields

The Marange diamond fields have a 68,500 hectare area in Zimbabwe. The diamond fields are in the district of Chiadzwa, Mutare West in the electoral area.

The main mine of the area is the Mbada mine.

History

In 2008, the military took over from Zimbabwe forcibly take control of the mines. It should have been killed, according to human rights groups about 200 people.

2009, the trade was prohibited in diamonds from the Marangegebiet due to the Kimberley Process at times. End of June 2011 had two companies the permission to re- export diamonds, as they now meet the requirements of the Kimberley Process.

In August 2011, the BBC reported forced labor and torture in the mines by the police and military. There should exist two torture camps in the area. One is located near the Mbada mine are and another near Muchena. Mining Minister Obert Mpfofu rejected the accusations and the EU's external instruct Catherine Ashton called for " substantial evidence " for the claims, because previous studies of the European Union resulted in anything concrete.
