Marathon County, Wisconsin

The Marathon County is a county located in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. In 2010, the county had 134,063 inhabitants and a population density of 33.5 inhabitants per square kilometer. By 2012, the population increased to 134 735. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Wausau. The metropolitan region coincides with the Wausau Marathon County.

Geography

The County is located just north of the geographical center of Wisconsin. It has an area of ​​4082 square kilometers, of which 81 square kilometers are water surface.

History

The Marathon County was formed in 1850 from portions of Portage County. It was named after the Battle of Marathon in Greece.
