Maravillas de Jesús

Mary of the Miracles of Jesus (Spanish: María Maravillas de Jesús, a native Pidal y Chico de Guzman ) (* November 4, 1891 in Madrid, Spain, † December 11, 1974 in La Aldehuela in Madrid) was a Spanish Discalced Carmelite. She is worshiped in the Catholic Church as a saint.

Life

Maria Pidal, daughter of the Ambassador of Spain to the Holy See at age five, vowed perpetual virginity, and devoted himself early charitable activities. In 1919 she entered the Discalced Carmelite Nuns in and took the garb of the religious name Mary of the Miracles of Jesus. In 1926 Sr. Maravillas with three other nuns a Carmel by the Cerre de los Angeles, where he was elected prioress.

At the request of the local bishop in 1933 she founded a Carmelite Convent in Kottayam in India, which in turn went out several start-ups. During the Spanish Civil War, the Carmelite nuns were persecuted and put under house arrest. 1937, moved the Convention in Las Batuecas at Salamanca new and was able to 1939 in the devastated Carmel by the Cerre de los Angeles return, which the nuns newly built. In the following years Sr. Maravillas could create several new Karmelitinnenkonvente in Spain. Mary of the Miracles of Jesus was beatified and canonized in Madrid in 2003 by Pope John Paul II in 1998.
