Marble Arch

Marble Arch (English: " Marble Arch ") is a composed of white Carrara marble monument near the Speakers' Corner in Hyde Park at the western end of Oxford Street in London, England.

The arch was designed in 1828 by John Nash; as modeled on the Arch of Constantine in Rome. It was originally built as the entrance arch to the new Buckingham Palace on the Mall. In 1851 he was moved to its current location. The reason for this is often stated that the gate entrance was too narrow for the state carriages. In fact, however, these are just an anecdote; even with the largest of the royal carriages, the Gold State Coach rarely used in 1762, Elizabeth II happened on the occasion of her coronation in 1953 easily the central passage.

Under the arch were originally members of the British royal family and the King's Troop, Royal Horse Artillery round ride. Today, this is the public allowed.

The closest metro station is also called " Marble Arch "; there hold the Central Line.
