Marc Almond

Peter Mark Sinclair Almond ( born July 9, 1957 in Southport, Lancashire ) is an English singer and songwriter.

Career

Together with David Ball, he founded in September 1980, the band Soft Cell, the first successful electronic duo Britain. To their great successes include, inter alia, Tainted Love (1981).

Want to Soft -Cell - times he published as Marc and the Mambas (including with Matt Johnson of The The) in the years 1982 to 1984 two albums. With this project, he is again as the forerunner of a musical form in which a whole orchestra with flows into the pop music ( in the studio and at concerts ).

His solo career began in Marc Almond 1984. Known are, inter alia, his duets with Kelli Ali, Gene Pitney, Nico, Siouxsie Sioux, PJ Proby, Nina Hagen, Jimmy Somerville and Rosenstolz. He also worked with other bands from the environment of the former London scene, such as Foetus and Coil.

His greatest success as a solo artist celebrated Almond with the number 1 hit Something's Gotten Hold of My Heart, his version of a song by Gene Pitney, who thus in 1967 a Top 5 hit was recorded and who was involved as a duet partner on the song.

He was introduced by the Industrial - musician Boyd Rice in the Church of Satan in 1999, which he also writes in his autobiography, Tainted Life. Compared with the newspaper Die Welt, he described the launch as " wonderful," but denied being a member. He " believe in no religion" is but have been fascinated by Anton Szandor LaVey's books, and I liked his views on music and film.

2001 Almond joined forces with his old colleagues David Ball as Soft Cell in London's 'Ocean Club ' to be inaugurated on. Following a best-of compilation by Soft Cell released in 2002 even a new studio album, followed by a concert tour. 2004 or a Soft Cell DVD was released - Non-Stop Exotic Video Show.

On 17 October 2004 Almond was seriously injured as a passenger in a motorcycle accident in London. He was eleven days in ICU, after several operations he recovered from his injuries but again.

In 2007 he released his album ' Stardom Road ', which exclusively contains cover versions down to a single song and was enthusiastically applauded by the press.

Published in 2008, Almond with Michael Cashmore ( Current 93 ), the CD Gabriel & The Lunatic Lover with two set to music poems of the poet Earl Eric Stenbock.

In March 2009 he gave as part of his " Stardom Road Continued Tour" eight concerts in Germany.

In 2010 he celebrated his 30th stage anniversary with a European tour.

In 2012, he joined, among others, also in the German cities of Leipzig, Berlin and Cologne.

He describes himself as gay, but do not want gay artist to be named, because that could be construed as his opinion that his work only for homosexuals was interesting.
