Marc Amsler

Marc Amsler ( born February 5, 1891 in Vevey, Switzerland, † May 3, 1968 ) was a professor of ophthalmology at the Zurich Department of Ophthalmology, University of Zurich. He assumed this position in 1944 by his predecessor, Prof. Alfred Vogt. Previously, he was in Lausanne, where he had taken this place by Jules Gonin (1870-1935) since 1935, chief physician of Ophthalmology. Although he was best known for his Amsler grid vision test using the Amsler grid, he has also made progress in the knowledge of uveitis. The Amsler grid vision test was the development of a vision tests by Edmund Landolt. So that one checks the location of the highest visual acuity ( yellow spot or macula) of the retina, with macular degeneration can be recognized. Amsler has also published over keratoconus. 1951 Amsler led the first cornea transplant at the Zurich Eye Clinic through. He has worked in this office until 1961, after which it was taken over by Rudolf Witmer ( 1919-1992 ).
