Marc-Antoine Parseval

Marc- Antoine Parseval des Chenes (* April 27, 1755 in Rosières -aux- Salines; † August 16, 1836 in Paris) was a French mathematician who was known for his namesake Parseval's equation.

He arrived in 1755 as the son of an aristocratic family to the world. In 1795 he married Ursule Guerillot, settled, however, already divorced shortly after. As a monarchist, he was the French Revolution against critical and was imprisoned for publishing poems in 1792.

Between 1796 and 1828 he was nominated five times in the Académie des sciences, but not into selected. His mathematical publications were limited to five articles, which he in 1806 under the title Mémoires presentes à l'Institut des Sciences, Lettres et Arts, par divers savants, et dans ses lus Assemblées. Sciences Mathématiques et physiques. ( Savants étrangers. ) Published. The individual articles are published under the following titles:

The second " Mémoire " from 1799 contains the Parseval equation named after him, but without proof and without reference to Fourier series. Parseval said, a proof is not necessary, since the statement of the equation is obvious.
