Marc Gini

Marc Gini ( born November 8, 1984 in Castasegna ) is a Swiss ski racer. The brother of Sandra Gini specializes in slalom and giant slalom races so far and won a World Cup race.

Biography

Ginis career began in 2000 with inserts of various FIS races and national championships. But first successes were characterized in 2003 from when he was also employed at European Cup races. In 2004, he was sidelined because of a torn ACL for a whole season. Greater awareness at the national level Gini obtained in April 2005 when he won the Swiss championship title in the slalom. Since January 2003, he had participated in World Cup race, but was only on December 4, 2005 as the 22nd win of the slalom in Beaver Creek his first World Cup points.

Gini took at the World Championships in 2005, 2007 and 2009 in part in slalom, but dropped out each time. In 2006 he was for the second time Swiss slalom champion and first giant slalom champion; over the next three years, followed by two more Swiss champion in slalom and one in the super combined.

On November 11, 2007 Gini won the slalom at the Reiteralm and so took his first World Cup victory before Kalle Palander and Manfred Mölgg. Five weeks later, he scored with seventh place in the slalom in Alta Badia be up to that second-best World Cup result. In a further consequence, Gini could not classify a long time in the top ten and was after the 2008 /09 season due to insufficient services ( a 14th place as best result) set back from the national to the B-team of Swiss-Ski.

In the 2009/10 season the Swiss shows an ascending power curve: On November 15, 2009 Gini went tenth in the slalom in Levi first time in almost two years in the top 10 in the World Cup and on December 3, he celebrated his first European Cup victory. On 10 January 2010, he reached sixth place in the slalom in Adelboden, the second-best World Cup result at this stage of his career. These results also helped him to a start in his first Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, where he was in the Slalom 15. In addition, he rose from the Swiss B- squad for the 2010/11 season on the A-team. In the World Cup season 2010/11 Gini was in contrast to previous years, recorded almost no failures. His best result of the season was the fourth place in the finals in Lenzerheide. At the World Championships 2011 in Garmisch -Partenkirchen, he finished only 37th place, but thus achieved during his fourth World Cup finals for the first time a result.

After the end of the season 2010/11 Gini underwent a meniscus operation in which a cartilage damage was treated in the knee. Because of persistent pain that had only allowed him a highly limited summer training, followed in early October 2011, a second operation. In the season 2011/12 he could not participate in any race.
