Marc Ouellet

Cardinal Marc Ouellet PSS ( born June 8, 1944 in La Motte, Quebec, Canada as Joseph Armand Marc Ouellet ) is Emeritus Archbishop of Quebec and a Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church. Since 2010 he is a Cardinal Prefect of the Congregation for Bishops.

Life

Marc Ouellet, son of a family of eight children, attended the Berthier College (1958-1959) and studied philosophy at the Ecole Normale of Amos (1959-1964) and Education at the University of Laval (1964 ) and Catholic Theology at the Grand Seminary of Montréal (1964 /68) and the University of Montreal. On May 25, 1968, he received by Gaston grove the sacrament of Holy Orders. He then spent two years in the community and pastoral care was curate in the parish of Saint- Sauveur in Val- d'Or.

After language training in Spanish, he taught from 1970 to 1971 philosophy at the Major Seminary of Bogotá, Colombia, which was led by the priest community of Saint -Sulpice. In 1972 he joined the Sulpizianern. In Rome in 1974 he graduated from a philosophical licentiate at the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas, and at the Theological Faculty of the University of Innsbruck.

In 1974 he became a professor at the Major Seminary of Manizales in Colombia, from 1976 at the Grand Séminaire de Montréal. In 1978 he returned to Rome and in 1983 received his doctorate Dogmatic Theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University in the Department. After language training in German in Passau he became a professor at the Major Seminary of Cali in Colombia. From 1984 to 1989 he was rector of the Seminary of Manizales in Colombia. In 1989 he became rector of the Grand Séminaire de Montréal, and in 1994 rector of St. Joseph Seminary in Edmonton and taught in 1996/97 at Newman Theological College in Edmonton. From 1992 to 2002, Marc Ouellet was Grand Prior of the Lieutenancy of Canada - Quebec Equestrian Order of the Holy grave in Jerusalem.

From 1996 to 2002 he held the chair of dogmatic theology at the Pontifical Institute " John Paul II " for Studies on Marriage and Family of the Lateran University in Rome, where he was appointed Titualarprofessor 1997. From 1995 to 2000 he was a consultant to the Congregation for the Clergy and 1996 consultant to the General Chapter of the Sulpician.

On March 3, 2001, Pope John Paul II appointed Titular Archbishop of Acropolis and secretary of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity and donated him on March 3, 2001 at St. Peter's Episcopal ordination; Co-consecrators were the Curia cardinals Angelo Sodano and Giovanni Battista Re. His episcopal motto is Ut unum sint.

A year later, followed by John Paul II appointed Archbishop of Québec. On 21 October 2003, Pope John Paul II was a cardinal priest with the titular church of Santa Maria in Traspontina to the College of Cardinals.

Pope Benedict XVI. also appointed him for the XII. Annual General Meeting of the Synod of Bishops, which met from 5 to October 26, 2008 in Rome, the General Rapporteur. June 30, 2010 he was appointed Benedict XVI. to the Cardinal Prefect of the Congregation for Bishops and President of the Pontifical Commission for Latin America. Pope Francis Ouellet confirmed in the course of the first reorganization of the Curia after his election as Pope on 16 December 2013 as the Cardinal Prefect of the Bischofskogregation.

On April 13, 2012, he served as Special Envoy of the Pope the opening Mass for the Holy Robe Pilgrimage in Trier.

Cardinal Ouellet was before the conclave in 2013 as papabile because it the voices of the American cardinals to be had through its North American origin and former activities in South America can draw.

Work

Marc Ouellet is considered as an intellectual and cosmopolitan, but also as a conservative in theological questions. He has spoken out against abortion and against gay marriage. In abuse scandal, he has played an important role as a reconnaissance.

Ouellet is the Catholic magazine COMMUNIO ( International Catholic journal Communio, appears in about 17 languages) adjacent and preferably the theology of Hans Urs von Balthasar ( 1905-1988 ).

Ouellet speaks French and English fluently Italian, German, Portuguese, Spanish and understands Latin and Hebrew.
