Marc Riboud

Marc Riboud (* June 24, 1923 in Lyon) is a French photographer and member of the photo agency Magnum Photos.

Life

Marc Riboud photographed in 1937 as a 14- year-old the world exhibition in Paris with a used Kodak pocket camera. He was involved from 1943 to 1945 in the French Resistance and was an activist in the resistance. After the war he studied from 1945 to 1948, first in mechanical engineering at the Ecole Centrale de Lyon and then worked as an engineer in Lyon. His decision to work as a freelance photographer, took him to Paris in 1952. Here he met the photojournalist Robert Capa and Henri Cartier -Bresson and joined the newly founded Magnum Photos agency. From 1954 he lived and worked in London Riboud. In 1955 he became a full member of Magnum and began a series of photographic expeditions to the Far East. In 1957, he documented, partially obscured working that dominated the Mao regime in China.

From 1959 to 1973 Riboud was the vice president of the European office of Magnum and in 1975 its president. From 1980 he worked only sporadically as ' assisting photographer " at the agency.

For his photographic work Riboud has received numerous awards, including the Overseas Press Club Award. He has also been featured in numerous exhibitions, as in the Musée National d' Art Moderne in Paris.
