Marc Schneider ( born July 23, 1980 in Thun) is a former Swiss football player who was last at FC Thun in the Axpo Super League under contract. In October 2012, he ended his active career and is now on active as youth coach.

Career

Marc Schneider began his professional career at FC Thun. From 1998 to 2002 he played for the first team in the National League B, today's Challenge League. In the 2001 /02 season, the Thun qualified for the Auf-/Abstiegsrunde and rose in fourth place when on in the National League A ( current ASL). Schneider, who had contributed a lot to this success, however, changed in the summer of 2002 to FC Zurich, where he first took over seven games for Zurich. But already for the second round in 2002/ 03 he returned at the request of coach Hanspeter Latour for a year to the Bernese Oberland back ( on loan ) and has a total of 32 times used until the end of the group stage in 2003 /04 of FC Thun. After his return to FC Zurich the Defensive Allrounder recorded his biggest successes so far. The left foot celebrated with the FCZ two league titles (2006 and 2007 ) and a Cup victory ( 2005). In Zurich Schneider was, who enjoyed the confidence of coach Lucien Favre, now not just ordinary, but leading players. The native of Thun is said that he is a very sociable and open person. His character traits therefore earned him repeatedly in Zurich the captain's armband one.

The end of 2007 it was announced that Schneider a change to the BSC Young Boys (YB ) planned, but the negotiations failed initially. Instead, the FCZ came in early 2008 in accordance with the then ailing FC St. Gallen, played for the defender subsequently the rest of the season until the summer of 2008. The team finished at the end of the second to last place in the table, lost in the play-off against AC Bellinzona and dismounted in the Challenge League. For the 2008/09 season it finally came to the desired Schneider transfer to the Young Boys, where he signed a contract until 30 June 2011. However, the defender received under YB- coach Vladimir Petković not the expected operating time - especially in the 2009/10 season ( 16 appearances ), he served mainly as a substitute. This meant that he had already returned in the summer of 2010 to his youth club FC Thun, where he completed a contract until June 2013.

Schneider established himself in the first round of 2010/11 as starting player, and was a mainstay of the strong Thun back line, considered the second strongest defense of the highest Swiss league this season. But the defender was slowed by an old injury in October 2010. In the autumn of 2005, Schneider moved to an Achilles injury and could not be used by the FCZ for several weeks. In September 2006, he had to undergo surgery on both Achilles tendons. Because of a repeat procedure to the Achilles tendon of the defenders fell from now also on 30 October 2010 to 15 February 2011. On March 6, 2011, he was first employed after his injury lay back in a serious game, as he was a substitute in the home game against FC Luzern in the 88th minute.

Schneider still came in the 2012/13 season, although to a bet, however, ended in October the same year his active career. The FC Thun he remains as a youth coach.

National

At 18 years, Marc Schneider, who was trained at FC Thun urged for the first time on a junior national team. On May 17, 1998, he was called up for a game of Switzerland U- 18 against the Italian U-18 Juniors, which was lost with 1:3. His next four international missions had the defender in the same year with the Swiss U-19 Junior National Team, namely two international matches against Denmark, as well as one European Championship qualifier against Lithuania and Bosnia - Herzegovina.
