Marc Streitenfeld

Marc Streitenfeld (* around 1974 in Munich) is a German film composer. He achieved fame by his repeated cooperation with the British film director Ridley Scott ( among others, A Good Year, American Gangster, Robin Hood, Prometheus ).

Biography

Marc Streitenfeld was born as the son of an architect and grew up with his family in Munich's Olympic Village. As a youth he practiced five to six hours a day playing the guitar and dreamed of pursuing a career as a rock musician. After graduation, he studied political science and philosophy ( other claims that he gave up a place at the German School of Journalism ). He abandoned his studies and traveled to but at the age of 19 years as a backpacker in Los Angeles. There, the musical autodidact completed on the recommendation of a distant acquaintance an internship at the German film composer Hans Zimmer.

Streitfeld worked three to four years as an assistant for room and was among others on projects such as Tony Scott's Crimson Tide - In the lowest risk (1995), Michael Bay's The Rock - Rocky (1996 ), James L. Brooks ' Good as It Gets ( 1997) or Terrence Malick's The Thin Red Line (1998) involved. After he had resigned and spent several months traveling and photography, Streitfeld was again of room as a music editor for John Woo's action film Mission: Impossible II obliged ( 2000). With similar tasks Streitfeld was also observed in other commissions room as Ridley Scott directing Gladiator ( 2000), Hannibal, Black Hawk Down (both 2001), entrusted Kingdom of Heaven ( 2005) and Edward Zwick's The Last Samurai ( 2003).

Although Streitfeld by his own admission never wanted to be a composer and also did not compose himself, he was commissioned by Ridley Scott to create the soundtrack for the comedy A Good Year (2006). After his first independent film composition, the renewed collaboration with Scott followed in his films American Gangster (2007), The Man of Lies (2008), the historical epic Robin Hood (2010) and the sci- fi thriller Prometheus - (2012 ). The international breakthrough paved for him by American Gangster, whose music he provided them with gloomy soul and blues elements reminiscent of the 1970s. The film brought Streitfeld 2008 a nomination for the British Academy Film Award and the World Soundtrack Award for "Discovery of the Year". " Ridley is extremely open to any idea that I have musical and yet always knows exactly where it should go ," says Streitfeld on cooperation with the British director. For the man who never lived the composer based on Far Eastern melodies and rhythms, while Jake Scott's family drama Welcome to the Rileys gentle piano tones were used.

From 2004 to 2013 Marc Streitenfeld had a relationship with the French- American actress Julie Delpy. From the relationship, a common son went bold (* January 2009). Streitfeld his time between Paris and Los Angeles, where he maintains a private studio.
