Marc Wauters

Marc Wauters ( born February 23, 1969 in Hasselt ) is a Belgian racing cyclist.

Marc Wauters began his professional career in 1991 with the Belgian cycling team lotto. After three years, he then moved on to WordPerfect. Here then he celebrated his first successes, he won the Ster van Zwolle and the Ronde van Limburg. A year later he won on the fifth stage of the Ruta del Sol. 1996 took him back for two years back to the lottery. He won there in his first year, a stage of the Four Days of Dunkirk. Since 1998, Wauters goes for the Dutch team Rabobank. Its by far the most successful year he had in 1999. He won the Tour de Luxembourg, the PruTour by England, the GP Eddy Merckx, the Rheinland -Pfalz- tour and the classic Paris -Tours. In the 2000 season, he was only able to defend his overall victory in the Rheinland -Pfalz- tour. In the 2001 Tour de France he celebrated the biggest success of his long career. He won the second stage from Saint- Omer to Antwerp, near his home, and went the next day in the yellow jersey. 2002 won Wauters for the first time at the Belgian Time Trial Championship, he repeated this success in 2003 and 2005. At Paris -Roubaix in 2003 succeeded him an excellent fourth place.
