Marca's marmoset

The Marca - marmoset ( Callithrix marcai or Mico marcai ) is a primate of the family of marmosets.

Features

Marca - Marmoset Marmoset, like all relatively small primate with silky fur and a long tail. The coat color is predominantly gray and goes back over to brownish, the hind legs are brown. The head is also dark brown, the face is hairless, naked ears protrude from the skin. As with all marmosets are located on the fingers and toes (except the big toe ) claws instead of nails.

Dissemination and lifestyle

So far, Marca - marmoset were found in only one place, in the area of the confluence of Rio Aripuanã and Rio Roosevelt in the Amazon basin in the Brazilian state of Amazonas. The habitat there are rain forests.

The species was first described by only three museum specimens, there has been no observations of live animals. Therefore also their way of life is unknown. Like all marmosets they are likely to be diurnal and arboreal, living in groups and feed on tree sap, fruit and small animals.

There are also on the degree of exposure not specified, the IUCN lists the species under "too little data available " ( data deficient ).
