Marcel Aubert

Marcel Aubert (* April 9, 1884, † December 28, 1962 ) was a French historian and art historian.

Life

After completing his schooling at the Lycée Condorcet in Paris, he studied at the École Nationale des Chartes and graduated in 1907 with a thesis on the Senlis Cathedral from.

Aubert is considered the forerunner of the art historical teaching, also for wide circle of readers in France. In Germany he was in the 1960s and 1970s rezipiert through translations of introductory works that have appeared to Romanesque and Gothic art. These books also provide precursor to the then little by little for broad sections of the population emerging and still popular art guides dar.

He also served as professor at the École Nationale des Chartes and director of the Société française d' archéologie.
