Marcel Azzola

Marcel Azzola (* July 10, 1927 in Paris Ménilmontant ) is a French accordionist.

Life

Azzola first learned to play the violin. Later he was accordion student of Paul Saive and Attilio Bonhommi and in the 1940s by Medard Ferrero. Age of twelve he played in Parisian cafes to concert. In the 1950s, he appeared as a companion of Yves Montand, Barbara, Georges Brassens, Édith Piaf, Juliette Greco and and worked for several years with Jacques Brel. He also took on since 1953 numerous pieces of dance music: Paso dobles, tangos, boleros, Musettes, besides also songs and adaptations of classical works.

At the age Azzola launched a second career as a jazz musician to with Stéphane Grappelli, Christian Escoudé, Dany Doriz and Toots Thielemans. He formed a trio with Patrice and Marc Fosset Caratini, worked with Richard Galliano and recorded with Stéphane Belmondo and Lina Bossatti. In addition, he also worked with Florin Niculescu and Jacques Vidal and accordionist Marc Perrone and Marcel Loeffler.
