Marcel Hossa

Marcel Hossa ( born October 12, 1981 in Ilava, Czechoslovakia) is a Slovak ice hockey player who is since May 2013 with Dinamo Riga in the Kontinental Hockey League contract.

Career

Marcel Hossa started his career as a hockey player in the youth of the HC Dukla Trenčín for which he was active until 1998. He then moved to North America to the Portland Winter Hawks, for whom he played in the next three years in the Western Hockey League. During this time he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 2000 in the first round than a total of 16 players from the Montreal Canadiens, for whom he made ​​his debut in the National Hockey League in the 2001/ 02 season. During his time in Montreal but Hossa played mainly for the farm teams of the Canadiens, the Quebec citadels and Hamilton Bulldogs of the American Hockey League.

During the lockout in the 2004/ 05 NHL season Hossa signed a contract with Mora IK of the Swedish Elitserien, where he ran aground a part of the season along with his brother Marián. Following the resumption of gaming operations in the NHL Hossa signed a contract with the New York Rangers, for whom he regularly came into use in the next three years. The Rangers had the striker committed in a transfer business in exchange for Garth Murray. Shortly before the end of the Trade Deadline in the 2007/ 08 season of Slovak was finally delivered to the Phoenix Coyotes, where he played 14 games until season's end. Then he signed in May 2010 a contract for two years with the reigning champions of the KHL, the Kazan Ak Bars. After a year in Kazan Hossa contract was terminated and he moved within the KHL to HK Spartak Moscow. After a further contract resolution in December 2011 by Spartak Moscow of the Slovak returned shortly after the beginning of 2012 back to his former club Dinamo Riga.

As of May 2012, he stood by the KHL rookie HC Lev Prague under contract before it a year later moved to Dinamo Riga.

Internationally

For Slovakia Hossa took part in the U18 World Youth Championship in 1999 and the U20 World Junior Championships in 2000 and 2001 at junior level. In the senior level, he stood in his country's squad at the World Championships A- 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2011 and 2012 and at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin and Vancouver 2010.
