Marcel Minnaert

Marcel Gilles Jozef Minnaert ( born February 12, 1893 in Bruges, † October 26, 1970 in Utrecht) was a Belgian astronomer. His specialties were the Astro spectroscopy - he was a pioneer of solar spectrophotometry - and the study of stellar atmospheres.

Minnaert began with the study of botany at the University of Ghent, then turned to the study of physics at the University of Leiden to. From 1937 to 1963 he was director of the Sonnenborgh observatory in Utrecht.

He is known for a book on Meteorological Optics ( light phenomena in the atmosphere).

Awards

After the Minnaert and Minnaert lunar crater the asteroid (1670 ) Minnaert was named.
