Marcel Schmelzer (born 22 January 1988 in Magdeburg ) is a German footballer who plays for Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga since 2008. Schmelzer 's U-21 European Championship since 2010 and A-National player.

Schmelzer was logged from December 1996 to June 2002 at Fortuna Magdeburg and then transferred to 1 FC Magdeburg. 2005 moved Schmelzer in the A- youth of Borussia Dortmund, where he was initially planned as a left winger and was eventually turned into a full-back due to a staffing emergency. He came in 45 missions to two goals for BVB in the A- youth league of the season West. Two years later he moved into the squad on the second team in the Regionalliga Nord, for which he had already in 2005 his first game in the Oberliga Westfalen denied.
After 26 games in the Regional Schmelzer was called into the squad for the Bundesliga team of Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2008 by the new BVB coach Jürgen Klopp. There he made his competitive debut on 9 August 2008 at the DFB Cup at Rot-Weiss Essen (3:1). His first Bundesliga game Schmelzer graduated seven days later at Bayer 04 Leverkusen (3:2). In the 2009/10 season he could Dedê from the left-back position displace and became a regular player. On 31 March 2009 Schmelzer made his debut in a friendly match of the U21 national team as an attacking midfielder. His first competitive match he graduated at the U- 21 European Championship in Sweden under national coach Horst Hrubesch: 4-0 final win over England at the U- 21 Championship on June 29, 2009, he was a substitute just before the game ends.
On 17 November 2010 Schmelzer played his first senior international. In a friendly against Sweden in Gothenburg (0-0 ), in which his Dortmund teammate Mats Hummels and Kevin Grosskreutz participated, he played over the full season on the left side of defense.
In the 2012 European Football Championship he was not used. In qualifying for the 2014 World Cup, coach Loew Philipp Lahm on the right side of defense, Schmelzer on the left. After he had been missing injured in the match against the Faroe Islands, Schmelzer played from the start against Austria and Ireland.
