Marcellinus (magister officiorum)

Marcellinus († 351 at Mursa [today Osijek ] ) was an AD in the 4th century BC live late antique Roman official.

Marcellinus was Emperor Constans, who ruled the western part of the empire, as comes rerum privatarum and was thus responsible for the administration of the imperial Kronschatzes. On January 18, 350 taught Marcellinus, who was obviously very ambitious, to celebrate the birthday of his son, a feast in Augustodunum from, which was attended by several high-ranking officers of the Gallic army. During the ceremony, he suddenly led the officer Magnentius before ( a heathen barbarian origin, who commanded the elite legions of Ioviani and Herculiani ), which was otherwise only the Emperor, dressed in a purple robe and wore a tiara. In the high spirits of the festival Magnentius was thus proclaimed to Marcellinus ' instigation for Augustus.

As Constans anyway enjoyed no great popularity, the survey soon found broad support in the army, in February 350 Constans was killed. Marcellinus was nominated for his role he had played during the usurpation, for magister officiorum Magnentius and probably enjoyed great influence. In this role, he threw in June 350 down the uprising of the Nepotianus in Rome. Only a year later, however, Marcellinus fell in the bloody Battle of Mursa in which Magnentius Constans ' brother Constantius II defeated.
