Marcello Nizzola

Nizzola Marcello ( born December 17, 1900 in Genoa, † February 22, 1947 ) was an Italian wrestler.

Career

Marcello Nizzola developed in his hometown of Genoa an outstanding wrestler in two styles ( Greco-Roman style and free style ). Since the mid-1920s he was one of the best Italian wrestlers, however, came at international championships in 1931 for use because it had barred the way in his weight class until then Giovanni Gozzi. In 1931 he took part in the European Championships in Prague in the Greco-Roman style, where she won a bronze medal in the same bantamweight.

At the 1932 Olympic Games in Los Angeles Marcello even won the silver medal. In the final he defeated while the German Master Jacob Brendel from Nuremberg just after points. At the European Championships in 1934 in his own country Marcello arrived in Rome only to 5th place, although he had defeated the experienced Hungary Odon Zombori.

In 1935 it achieved Marcello in Brussels the biggest success of his career by winning the European Champion title in the bantamweight. After that, he still competed in the 1936 Olympics in Berlin and the European Championships 1937 in Munich each in free style, bantamweight, but won no medals.

Marcello Nizzola died in 1947 in Genoa andes consequences of a war-related illness. He did not live so that his son Garibaldo an outstanding wrestler, was the 1951 vice world champion in free style at lightweight.
