Marcelo Bordon

Marcelo José Bordon ( born January 7, 1976 in Ribeirão Preto ) is a former Brazilian footballer. The center-back played from 1999 to 2010 in Germany, where he was responsible for VfB Stuttgart and FC Schalke 04 active.

Career

Association

Bordon's career began at FC Botafogo de Ribeirão Preto, where he played in youth teams from 1983 to 1993. From 1994 to 1999 he played for Sao Paulo.

In Germany he was known by his move to VfB Stuttgart where he convinced as intelligence chief. In 2004 he moved to FC Schalke 04, in which he had a contract until 2011. In addition to his often impeccable defensive services his hard free kicks and headers in standard situations of opposing teams were feared.

Since the season 2006/ 07 Bordon was captain of Schalke team and thus also the Chairman of the Council team. On 17 March 2009 he gave up his position as captain to his deputy Mladen Krstajić.

On July 5, 2010 it was announced that Bordon has terminated his contract with FC Schalke 04. Bordon graduated 168 Bundesliga appearances, 36 European and 18 DFB Cup games for the Royal Blues.

In the season 2010/11 Bordon played in Qatar Al- Rayyan SC, then he ended his active career.

On 9 July 2011, he was adopted by a farewell match at the Veltins - Arena.

National

For the Brazilian national Bordon ran once on (2004 against Hungary). In addition, Bordon belonged to the Brazilian squad, which in the final against Argentina in the Copa América won in 2004.

For Bordon his Christian faith is of great importance, it is evangelical. He often emphasized that he owed his success to God.

Due to the origin of his father Bordon also has Italian citizenship. He is married and has three children. He is involved in street children and for fair trade coffee.
