Marcelo Tosatti

Marcelo Tosatti Worms Becker ( born May 27, 1982 in Curitiba, Brazil) is a Linux kernel programmer. He was responsible for the maintenance of kernel versions 2.4.x, which he then handed to Willy Tarreau since version 2.4.16 (26 November 2001) to the version 2.4.33 (July 2006).

Life

Tosatti grew up in Curitiba, Brazil, on. At the age of twelve, when his older brother Nei started putting together computer systems and to sell, he also began to increase its interest in computers. He dealt with DOS and BASIC and began to care a little later for C. He acquired the language of self-taught by trial and error and reading various books.

1995/1996, at the age of 14, he first had access to the internet and learned of Linux. He ordered Linux FT and replaced for some Windows NT server of a local ISP. A short time later, he received an offer from Conectiva and worked there for six years, where he first became interested in the kernel development. He fixed some errors in the versions 2.2/2.3 and managed the kernel RPMs from Conectiva.

When version 2.4 was ready for publication, it was generally believed that Linus Torvalds will relinquish the post of Maintainers to Alan Cox. Since Cox, however, decided to withdraw from the administration, he suggested Tosatti as his successor. Initially Tosatti was highly controversial, as many believed he was 18 years old too young to take on such a challenge. Due to the great support from Torvalds and Cox Tosatti but could maintain its position.

In 2003 he met his girlfriend Suzana know and moved to Porto Alegre, where he worked for the Cyclades Corporation. Since 1 May 2006 he works for Red Hat.
