His musical education at the Liceo Musicale Bossi was in Bologna and at the Milan Conservatory, where Francesco Sangalli (piano), Amilcare Ponchielli (composition), Carlo Boniforti (music theory) and Polibio Fumagalli (organ) were among his teachers.

In 1881 he was appointed choirmaster and organist at the cathedral in Como. Nine years later he became professor of organ and harmony at the Conservatory of Naples. In addition, he worked as a director at conservatories in Venice (1895-1901), Bologna (1902-1911) and Rome ( 1916-1923 ). On his numerous international concert tours, he came up with the most important organists of his time in contact. Representing be mentioned here by César Franck, Marcel Dupré, Alexandre Guilmant, Joseph Bonnet, Camille Saint- Saëns, Charles Courboin and Karl Straube.

Bossi died in 1925 on the way back from a concert tour to New York and Philadelphia on the high seas.
