Marco Etcheverry

Marco Antonio Etcheverry Vargas ( born September 26, 1970 in Santa Cruz de la Sierra ) is a former Bolivian footballer ( midfielder ).

Career

Etcheverry was during his playing days nicknamed " El Diablo". The notorious for his left foot midfielder played 71 times for the Bolivian national football team. Making his first appearance on the international scene he witnessed at the World Cup opening match in 1994 in his home country of Bolivia against defending champions Germany. Etcheverry came on in the 79th minute for the game Ramallo. Its use was already finished after three minutes because as referee Arturo Brizio Carter from Mexico showed him the red card.

Etcheverry played from 1996 until his retirement in late 2003 in the Major League Soccer ( MLS) for DC United in Washington. With the club he won as team captain three times the MLS Cup and Award of the 1998 season as the Most Valuable Player ( most valuable player ). He was voted All- Time Best XI ( best eleven of all time ) in the MLS in 2005.

When Junior Olympic football tournament in Singapore in August 2010 Etcheverry is part of the coaching staff led by Douglas Cuenca Bolivian U- 15 team
