Marco Jakobs

Marco Jacob (* May 30, 1974 in Unna ) is a former German track and field athlete and bobsledder.

His spent his childhood in the village Hemmerde. The Fourth of European Junior Championships 1993 in discus throw was between 1995 and 2003 five times in the top eight at the German Championships. His best jump is 64.96 meters in from the year 1997. Several times he surpassed the qualifying standard for international championships, but against world and Olympic champion Lars Riedel and Jürgen Schult how Jacob was able to prevail ultimately never.

Nevertheless, he also became Olympic, world and European champions, in the bobsleigh run. After the reunification of sample training sessions were conducted regularly for athletes to test their suitability for the Bobs in West Germany. Marco Jacob could both speed and power by convincing and was for years the team of bobsleigh pilot Christoph Langen.

In the 1998 Olympics he won along with Langen, Markus Zimmermann and Olaf Hampel gold in four-man bobsleigh. In 2001 he was with Langen world champion in the two- and 2003 European champions.

Due to health problems with his back, he heard shortly thereafter on the competitive sports. In addition to his athletic career, he studied sports science at the German Sport University Cologne ( DSHS ). After graduating with a degree in sports science Marco Jakobs first worked from 2003 to 2006 in a doctor's office as a sports therapist and personal trainer. Since then he has worked in the pharmaceutical sales in 2008 and has regional manager NRW for a manufacturer of rehabilitation and strength training equipment.

Marco Jacob lives in Cologne.
