Marco Wittmann

Marco Wittmann ( * November 24, 1989 in Fürth ) is a German racing driver. From 2009 to 2011, he drove in the Formula 3 Euro series and was there in 2010 and 2011 runner-up. 2013 he takes for the BMW team - Mtek in the DTM.

Career

Wittmann started his motor racing career at the age of six years in 1996 in karting, where he was active until 2007. Among other things, he won the 2004 German Junior Kart Championship. In 2007 he moved to Formula racing and went for Josef Kaufmann Racing in the German Formula BMW at the start. With two victories, he finished fifth in the overall standings. He also competed in the World Finals of the Formula BMW, where he was second behind the Austrian Philipp Eng. After the German and the British Formula BMW were merged, started Wittmann 2008 in the newly established European Formula BMW and stayed with Josef Kaufmann Racing. Although he won only one race, he secured thanks to ten other podium finishes the runner-up title behind his teammate Esteban Gutierrez.

After two years in Formula BMW changed Wittmann, 2009 in the Formula 3 Euro Series. For Mücke Motorsport starting he was not able to keep up with one of his three teammates, and he finished the season 16th overall. His best season placement, he scored the last race of the season, where he finished fourth. Then came Mirko Bortolotti with a guest driver in front of him to the finish, Wittmann received the points for third place. In 2010, he played his second season in the Formula 3 Euro Series for the French team Signature. After starting with a second place finish the season well, he won a race weekend at Hockenheim later his first race in the Formula 3 Euro Series. At the end of the season Wittmann defeated his teammate Edoardo Mortara and was runner-up. He was also third in the Formula 3 Masters 2010. Wittmann 2011 went for Signature again in the Formula 3 Euro Series at the start. He won five races and had a total of thirteen times on the podium. As the best Volkswagen driver, he finished the season with 285 points in second place in the drivers' championship behind Roberto Merhi, who had retracted 406 points. In addition, Wittmann took part in the FIA Formula 3 Trophy in 2011 and was not entitled to points only at the first event. He won two races, including the Grand Prix de Pau, and was also in the competition behind Merhi second. Would Wittmann been authorized points at every race, he would have won the trophy. At the end of the year Wittmann DTM tests completed for BMW.

2012 Wittmann DTM test driver for BMW. In addition, he participated in various long distance races. 2013 Wittmann received a DTM cockpit strain at BMW. He starts for the team Mtek. Already in his debut race, he scored points in ninth. After he had reached a race later in fourth place, he scored the third race of the season in Spielberg with a second place finish his first podium placement in the DTM. At the end of the season, he finished eighth overall.

Wittmann is a trained body builder. In 2007, he was managed by Willi Weber. From 2008 to 2011 Gravity Sport was responsible for its management.
