Marcus Allbäck

Marcus Christian Allbäck (born 5 July 1973 in Gothenburg ) is a former Swedish football player. The striker took part with the Swedish national team in two World and three European championships.

Career

Allbäck was as a child member of the Association Örgryte IS, a city club from his birthplace and hometown Gothenburg. His father Stefan was there at this time of active players and is now manager of the club. Allbäck was pro at Lyngby FC and AS Bari before returning to his original club and there became a service provider. In 2000, he was first appointed to the Swedish national team. At the beginning of the 2001/2002 season, he joined the Dutch club SC Heerenveen.

His breakthrough in the national team came in 2001 when he scored two goals against Moldova in Chisinau and thereby secured three important points in the World Cup qualifiers for Sweden. In the following game against Slovakia, he met again twice - he was so regular players. In the 2002 World Cup, he formed together with Henrik Larsson the attack of the Swedish team. After only one season at Heerenveen, he moved to Aston Villa, got there but less and less playing time and therefore also lost his place in the national team to Zlatan Ibrahimović. In 2004 he moved to Hansa Rostock, after relegation from the Bundesliga he left the club but after only one season again and moved on to FC Copenhagen.

In the summer of 2008 Allbäck announced return after the European Championships in Sweden to his home club Örgryte IS. With five goals in twelve inserts in the second division season 2008, he helped the club to the second division championship and thus to return to the Allsvenskan. Shortly after the beginning of the Erstligaspielzeit 2009, he suffered a serious knee injury. Overall, he brought it therefore up to the end of the season to 18 games, so he his club in a relegation battle could not help with three goals and descended with him from the first division.

Beginning of November 2009 ended Allbäck his active career as a player to join the coaching staff of newly appointed Swedish national coach Erik Hamrén as " Player Manager".

Allbäck is married with his wife Suzanne and has two children.
