Marcus Ehning

Marcus Ehning ( born April 19, 1974 in Südlohn, Westphalia ) is an internationally successful German show jumper.

Career

Marcus Ehning lives in Borken ( Borken district ) in Westphalia and has thanks to his horse loving family since childhood to do with ponies. Already in the Pony, Junior and Young Riders section, he won six gold medals in team competitions at the European Championships. In 1998 he got the horse For Pleasure in training, with which his success continued in the senior area. Among his greatest successes was the Olympic gold medal with the team at the Games in Sydney in 2000. Even the World Cup Final victory in 2006 in Kuala Lumpur, as well as winning the Grand Prix of Aachen is attributed to.

Marcus Ehning is a qualified wholesale and foreign trade merchant and stands with his horses on the family-owned riding facility.

For the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens Marcus Ehning was initially nominated by For Pleasure, but had to cancel his start in the short term due to a violation of his horse. In 2010, he was with Plot Blue part of the German team that won the gold medal at the World Equestrian Games in Lexington (Kentucky). In the individual competition as he reached the round of 27, nearly 30 best, in this he improved still ranked 16th in the final result.

From July to December 2009 he was leader of the world rankings. He has held continuously from August 2005 to January 2007 this position. In February 2014, he is ranked fourth in the world rankings.

Private

Since 24 June 2009, he is with his longtime girlfriend, the former vaulter Nadia Zülow (now Ehning ) married. The marriage produced three children so far.

His younger brother John Ehning is also active as a show jumper.

Awards

In April 2008, Marcus Ehning was honored by the Association of German sports journalists with the fair play trophy of the association. He received the award from the hands of Hans Günter Winkler for his voluntary renunciation of winning the Best of Champions, a test with changing horses in the context of the CHIO Aachen 2007. Having his horse For Germany had refused in the test under all three competitors and increased was, he rode past the voluntary final obstacle, which was considered a refusal and withdrawal, which resulted in this special Regulations to a score of 24 points. Since he had like two other starters, only 4 more penalty points erritten with other horses, so a jump-off was required. Ehning refrained from participating in the jump-off and contented himself voluntarily to the third place.
