Marcus Fronius (* 1659 in Brasov, † April 14, 1713 ) was a Lutheran theologian and educator.

Life

Born the son of the pastor Peter Fronius and his wife Barbara, the daughter of the town clergyman Simon Abelinus, he first visited the city school of his native city. In 1680 he began to study at the University of Wittenberg, where acquired in 1682 the degree of Master of Arts and left several dissertations and disputations appear in print. His former teachers were Abraham Calov and Johann German man.

Having returned to his hometown Fronius 1686 was first tutor, lecturer at the local high school in 1690 and entered 1691 a position as preacher at. Further vocations in 1695 as a priest in Heldsdorf, 1701 in Rosenau, 1703 followed as a parish priest in Brasov and in 1706 as dean of the Burzenländer chapter.

During the time of Kuruzzenkrieges Fronius began primarily for educational reforms, which referred to the then dilapidated schools. He placed special emphasis on the Katechisation and training of minister and teacher trainees. Had a formative influence above all Johann Amos Comenius and the Pietism of Philipp Jacob Spener, although he himself always held to the Lutheran orthodoxy here. As a representative of pure Transylvanian Saxon vernacular, he worked for the local community at synods, visitations and 1710 as the designated bishop of Siebenbürgner Saxony.
