Marcus Ljungqvist

By Marcus Ljungqvist ( born October 26, 1974 in Falun ) is a Swedish former racing driver and current sports director.

Career in sports

Marcus Ljungqvist started his professional career in 1998, after he became a 1996 Swedish champion in the road race at the Italian cycling team Cantina Tollo. In his first year he decided the Sweden - tour for themselves. In 1999 he won a stage of the Tour de Langkawi and took in the summer for the first time in the Tour de France in part. At the start of the following season, he joined the Danish Team Fakta. In his second year there, he could handle a stage of the Rhineland -Palatinate Tour of the fastest. Its by far the most successful year had Ljungqvist 2002: First he won the two -day race Route Adélie French and Paris- Camembert and later he triumphed at the Tour de Luxembourg. In 2003 he took a year's stint with Crédit Agricole and then moved to Alessio - Bianchi. The UCI Road World Championships 2005 in Madrid, he finished fourth and reached the hitherto best placement of a Swedish racing driver at the World Championships.

Since 2006, Ljungqvist rode for the Danish ProTour Team CSC. After the 2009 season, he announced his retirement from professional cycling after he had become one more time Swedish champion in the road race. Overall, Ljungqvist was six times Swedish champion in the road race, time trial and in the relay. He was also twice Nordic champion in the time trial.

2004 and 2008 launched Ljungqvist at the Olympic Games in the road race. In Athens in 2004, he was ranked 14 and 2008 Beijing 57th

Ljungqvist works at the cycling team Sky Procycling as Athletic Director (as of December 2013).
