Marcus Porcius Cato (consul 118 BC)

Marcus Porcius Cato († 118 BC ) was a member of the Roman Plebejergeschlechts the Porcier and 118 BC consul.

Marcus Porcius Cato was the elder son of Marcus Porcius Cato Licinianus and a grandson of the famous Roman statesman Marcus Porcius conservative Cato the Censor. About his early life and the first stages of his cursus honorum nothing is known. Not later than 121 BC, he held the praetorship. Three years later, in 118 BC, he rose to the highest office, with his fellow consul Quintus Marcius Rex was. He went to Africa. Presumably it was there for the task as a mediator between the heirs of the Numidian ruler Micipsa, the son of Masinissa to occur. However, he died during his consulate.

Marcus Porcius Cato was considered as a powerful orator. Several of his speeches have survived for some time after his death.
