Mareeba

Mareeba is a town in the Atherton Tablelands in northern Queensland, Australia and is the seat of Tablelands Regional Council. It lies on the Kennedy Highway about 60 kilometers west of Cairns and is therefore also the starting point for trips to the Outback direction Chillagoe.

In Mareeba the Mulligan Highway begins to Cooktown.

The name of the town founded in 1877 comes from an Aboriginal word that " the confluence of waters " means and refers to the Barron River and Granite.

Mareeba is the heart of the Australian tropical fruit and coffee industry. From here, many of the macadamias, cashews, lychees, pineapple and mangoes.
